Jim
Philbin was World Veterans Sabre Champion in 2007.
He also has the distinction of being five times Senior British
Sabre Champion and Commonwealth Sabre Champion.
As a member of the British Team from 1973 to 1984
he represented Great Britain at
Senior World Championships and Olympic
Games.
Following retirement from competitive
fencing in 1984 Jim coached the senior sabre squad during the period
1984 -1988. He also completed British Fencing's National Coach award
at
Foil and Sabre and has worked with fencers at all levels for many
years.
Jim returned to competitive fencing
in 2000 when he won the British Championships at both Foil and Sabre
in the Veterans category. In 2003 Jim won the Sabre bronze medal
at the European Championships followed by bronze at the 2004 World
Championships and bronze again at 2006 World Championships.
As a qualified international referee
Jim continues to be involved in all aspects of the sport.
